Music of Wye Oak & William Brittelle

  • Symphony Space 2537 Broadway New York, NY, 10025 United States (map)

"Spiritual America" is a series of electro-acoustic orchestral art songs that explores issues of secular spirituality in American culture. The project is being created in collaboration with the Alabama Symphony, Symphony Space, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Liquid Music Series/Walker Art Center, the Palm Springs Art Musuem, and the Baltimore Symphony. Core collaborators include the indie-rock duo Wye Oak, who contribute vocals and percussion throughout, the Metropolis Ensemble, an NYC-based independent orchestra, and the world-renowned Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The project is premiering in full at Symphony Space in New York City as part of the Infinite Palette residency on Friday, February 16th, 2018. With a sprawling acoustic ensemble and interwoven electronics, synths, electric guitars, and samples, "Spiritual America" is far and away the most involved, comprehensive work of William Brittelle's career. Album expenses will be significant. Your support will help cover the cost of tracking, editing, mixing, and mastering the record. Funds will also go towards development of the artwork, promotional materials, and core commissioning for the project's creation. Project donors of any amount will receive full crediting in album materials for their contribution. The "Spiritual America" trailer was conceived by William Brittelle and produced by Safety Third Productions, with Katherine Fisher directing.

Thomas, Cole, and Bryan join Metropolis Ensemble to perform music by Wye Oak and a new project by William Brittelle called Spiritual America.
